Yuri Kuper

Yuri Kuper is one of the most internationally well-known Russian artists. He has worked as graphic artist, decorator and scene designer. He belongs to the younger generation of non-conformist artists in the USSR. Kuper emigrated in 1972. He created set designs and costumes for several operas, including Boris Godunov in the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow (2007, directed by Alexander Sokurov), Othello in Perm (2008, directed by Vladimir Petrov), Carmen in Rostov (2008, directed by Yuri Laptev) and others. He is the author of the play Twelve paintings from the artist’s life, staged at the Moscow Art Theatre and the Sfumato novel (2015). Kuper lives in London, Paris, New York. Kuper’s works are part of the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the French Ministry of Culture, the Library of Congress of the USA and many other.
