Evgeny Muzalevsky

I am inventing my own poetic language by delving into personal memories and recollections. On the other hand, I contemplate the fictitious nature of memory, the possibility of constructing the personal by utilizing symbolic images rooted in the depths of culture and religion.
A graduate of Sergey Bratkov's workshop at the Rodchenko School in Moscow, Evgeny is currently continuing his education under the guidance of the German conceptualist Heiner Blum at the University of Art and Design in Offenbach, Germany. He lives and works in Moscow and Frankfurt.
Muzalevsky began his artistic exploration with photography and transitioned to painting through graphics. He also works with sculpture and various media. His works created in Russia are wild, intense, and nervous, while his German works tend to be more technical and reflective.
Muzalevsky's painting is emotional and direct: personal experiences are transformed into expressive lines and images on the canvas. Non-academic thinking in his art goes hand in hand with self-sufficiency.
The year 2021 was a significant one for the artist: he had a solo exhibition at Alina Pinsky Gallery, and his work "And Forgive Us Our Debts, As We Forgive Our Debtors" received the first prize in the Zverev Prize. Art historian Andrey Sarabyanov notes the continuity of avant-garde, post-avant-garde, and the art of the sixties in Muzalevsky's work.
