The Color Matrix project grew out of the artist's participation in the Real Venice exhibition at the 2011 Venice Biennale. Parshchikov presented his own version of contemporary Venice, one of the world's premier venues for art exhibitions, but also a city of millions of visual clichés. In his "unreal Venice," the central object of his exploration is the palette of the city and its islands—primarily Burano, where color reaches its peak intensity. Balancing on the edge of magical realism and metaphysics, Parshchikov creates color matrices from fragments of everyday life, reminiscent of abstract compositions, stained glass, or mosaics.
Tim Parshchikov (1983, Moscow) graduated from the cinematography department of VGIK (2007) and the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors (2008). Solo exhibitions have been held in Rome, Madrid, Paris, Cologne, St. Petersburg, and Moscow. In 2014, Parshchikov was awarded the Kandinsky Prize in the "Young Artist. Tim Parshchikov is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily with photography. His experience as a cinematographer—Parshchikov graduated from the cinematography department at VGIK—defines his visual language: attention to light, rhythm, and spatial organization. The cinematic nature of his artistic method benefits from documentary observation and structured mise-en-scènes.
